Your examples aren't exactly the same situation, neither Advance Auto parts nor Autozone developed a new product, in fact the OEM supplier is most likely the same for both. And between OEM and non-OEM parts there is usually a price difference, otherwise why go non-OEM? You are not rewarding R&D, even when a company keeps prices down, quality up, and supply ready. Your purchasing decision ultimately stifles all progress in aftermarket products for your Z.
